Jack Thompson

Jack Thompson is a Principal Lecturer in Law at the University of Brighton, School of Business and Law, where he also leads undergraduate law courses. He is affiliated with the Law, Society and Justice Research Excellence Group and is an active researcher and educator in healthcare law, tort law, and legal theory.

Jack's research centers on the intersection of moral philosophy and healthcare law, with a focus on deontological ethics, autonomy, rights, and justice. He explores topics such as human rights law, gender identity and consent, and the philosophical foundations of legal rights. His work critically engages with ethical rationalism and the principle of generic consistency.

His recent scholarly output spans book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles, with recurring themes in human rights, autonomy, gender, and medical law. He has co-edited volumes and published on contentious legal-ethical issues, including wrongful life, trans rights, and the normativity of rights.

Jack supervises PhD students and has experience guiding research to completion. He has contributed to curriculum development, assessment design, and peer review for leading academic publishers and journals. He has presented at national and international forums on legal theory and human rights.

He is an active member of academic networks, serving on the School REF panel and collaborating on interdisciplinary research projects related to vulnerability, rights, and justice.
