Jack Mitchener is University Organist and Artist Affiliate in Organ at Emory University, concurrently serving as Professor of Organ and Director of the Townsend-McAfee Institute of Church Music at Mercer University, and Organist/Artist-in-Residence at Atlanta's Cathedral of St. Philip. A former professor at Oberlin College Conservatory and University of North Carolina School of the Arts, he holds degrees from Eastman School of Music (DMA, master's in organ, master's in harpsichord) and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (bachelor's).
An internationally recognized performer, he has concertized across five continents in venues including Notre Dame Cathedral and St. Sulpice in Paris, with collaborations including the Mendelssohn String Quartet and composer John Corigliano. His research focuses historically informed performance practice and organ literature, having recorded for Gothic and Raven labels and premiered works by contemporary composers.
