About
Jack McSweeney is an Assistant Professor at the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SOMAS), Stony Brook University. His research focuses on coastal physical oceanography, including estuarine dynamics, coastal sediment transport, and the dynamics of shoaling internal waves. He leads the McSweeney Lab, which specializes in observational studies using moorings, ship surveys, and gliders.
- Education: Ph.D. in 2016 from Rutgers University
His research interests include the interconnected dynamics of coastal subregions (inner shelf, surfzone, estuaries), buoyant plumes, and spatiotemporal stratification variability. Recent studies highlight contributions to understanding internal bore evolution, cross-shelf transport mechanisms, and sediment-transport interactions.
