Jack Brett is an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Psychological Science, The University of Western Australia. His research focuses on empathy measurement, autism spectrum disorder, and psychometrics. He recently completed a doctoral thesis titled An investigation into empathy in autistic and non-autistic people (2024), advancing understanding of empathy in neurodiverse populations. His work addresses topics like affective vs cognitive empathy, repetitive behaviors in autism, and emotion regulation in parental mental health. Dr. Brett's contributions include developing the Perth Empathy Scale and validating measurement tools for clinical and developmental psychology contexts. He collaborates with institutions globally on projects exploring the intersection of empathy, autism, and psychopathology. Currently supervising Higher Degree by Research students, he maintains an active research program addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals related to mental health and well-being.
