Jacinta Catherine Beehner

Jacinta Catherine Beehner is an Associate Professor in Psychology and Anthropology at the University of Michigan, affiliated with the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. She serves as Director of the University of Michigan Gelada Research Project, Capuchins at Taboga Project, Beehner Endocrine Laboratory, and Evolution and Human Adaptations Program. Her research focuses on sexual conflict in mammals, particularly primate reproductive strategies, using comparative and mechanistic approaches.

Her work examines how female primates counteract male coercive tactics through physiological and behavioral mechanisms, such as deceptive fertility and pregnancy termination. Study species include baboons, geladas, and capuchins. She has been recognized with the Rackham Faculty Recognition Award (2021) and Rackham Distinguished Graduate Mentor Award (2024).

Beehner advises graduate students and leads field projects in Africa and the Americas. Her lab integrates fecal hormone analysis to understand reproductive physiology. She collaborates internationally and engages in outreach, including lectures at institutions like the Universidad Técnica Nacional in Costa Rica.
