J.R. Cruz is a Professor and Tilley Chair in Electrical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, serving as Director of the Communications Signal Processing Laboratory (CSPLab). He holds dual roles as an academic and researcher with affiliations in the Gallogly College of Engineering. His career includes engineering roles at NASA and Motorola before joining OU in 1982.

Research focuses on signal processing, coding for wireless communications, and data storage systems.
