J.L. Boormans

J.L. Boormans, MD PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Urology at the Erasmus MC Cancer Institute. As a Urologist and senior staff member, their research focuses on urothelial cancer, with expertise in pelvic and retroperitoneal malignancies, robotic and open surgery.

• Education: Medical degree from the University of Utrecht, US medical licensing (2001), specialization in Urology (2004-2009), PhD (2011).

Boormans leads translational clinical studies in urothelial cancer, including the CirGuidance study on circulating tumor cells and the MOLCARUTUC consortium for molecular characterization of upper tract urothelial carcinoma. They supervise PhD students and a PostDoc in clinical and translational research related to GU cancers.

Their career includes board memberships in the Dutch Uro Oncology Study Group (DUOS) and the Dutch Bladder Cancer Infrastructure. Notable research contributions involve risk stratification, personalized medicine, and collaborations with the Hartwig Medical Foundation for whole genome sequencing of urothelial carcinoma metastases.

Teaching activities include annual lectures for medical students, residents-in-training, and nursing staff.
