J. Vincent Lowery is a Professor in the Humanities Department at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and serves as the Interim Director of the Gateway to Phoenix Success (GPS) Program. In this role, he contributes to student recruitment, program development, staff training, and organizational management while actively teaching within the program. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in History from the University of Mississippi (2008) and prior teaching experience at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Lowery's research and teaching portfolio spans diverse themes:
- African American History and Ethnic Studies (initial focus)
- US Immigration History, particularly turn-of-the-century Southern immigration programs and their intersection with immigration law
- Science Fiction, including critical analysis of Doctor Who and imagined futures in literature/film
Currently, he is developing a course on imagined futures in literature, film, and television, which will debut in the GPS program. Outside academia, he spends time exploring Northeast Wisconsin with his family and coaching youth baseball.
