J. Timothy Stout is the Sid W. Richardson Professor, Margarett Root Brown Chair, and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine. He also serves as Director of the Cullen Eye Institute and previously held leadership roles at Oregon Health & Science University. He holds an MD and PhD from Baylor College of Medicine, an MBA from the University of Oregon, and completed fellowships in Medical Retina and Surgical Retina.
Dr. Stout’s research focuses on gene and cell-based therapies for ocular diseases, including pediatric vitreoretinal disorders, genetic mapping of retinal diseases, and stem cell applications. He directs the Clayton Gene Therapy Laboratories and has contributed to clinical trials for RPE65-deficient retinal dystrophies and corneal transplantation therapies.
Professional memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Gene Therapy, and Macula Society. His certifications include the American Board of Ophthalmology. He maintains clinical practices at the Alkek Eye Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, and the Cullen Eye Institute.
