J. David Maxson

J. David Maxson is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Media Studies program at Rhodes College. He earned his Ph.D. in 2018 from Pennsylvania State University, where he received the Alumni Association Dissertation Award in Fine Arts and Humanities. His research explores how activist communities in the American South utilize local places and public memory practices to foster more equitable forms of remembrance.

Dr. Maxson's work intersects media studies, rhetoric, and civic engagement, focusing on the role of communication in shaping collective memory. He has taught courses on media and memoryscapes, public speaking, college writing, contemporary African American communication, and rhetoric and civic life.
