Dr. J. Christopher Schutz is a Professor and Chair of the History Department at Tennessee Wesleyan University, with additional roles as Honors Program Faculty and Co-Chair of the Diversity Council. He earned a Ph.D. in History from the University of Georgia, a Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, and a B.A. in Philosophy from Loyola University New Orleans.

Dr. Schutz specializes in 20th Century American History, particularly the African American Freedom Struggle, the American South, American social and cultural history of the 1960s and 1970s, and the history of Modern China. He has authored works such as Jackie Robinson: An Integrated Life and is completing a manuscript on the Charlotte Three Trial, which examines the decline of the Civil Rights Movement through a controversial 1972 case.
