Dr. J. Beth Mabry is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), within the College of Education and Human Services. She holds a BS, MS, and PhD in Sociology from Virginia Tech, followed by a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Gerontology at the University of Southern California.
Her research and teaching focus on aging, applied sociological theory, family dynamics, leadership development, and research methodologies. She teaches undergraduate courses in social research methods, sociology of families, and principles of sociology, alongside doctoral leadership education courses. Her scholarly work examines stress, coping mechanisms, intergenerational relationships, adult life course development, and aging-related social policy.
Dr. Mabry actively serves on IUP’s University Planning Council and as an Institutional Review Board alternate. She previously co-chaired the University Scholars Fora for a decade and contributes to curriculum development in sociology and Writing Across the Curriculum initiatives. She mentors students in the Department of Sociology and the Administration and Leadership Studies PhD program at both Indiana and Harrisburg campuses.
Her professional roles include leadership in academic governance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advancing educational programs in sociology and leadership studies.
