J David Hulchanski is a Full Professor and holds the Dr. Chow Yei Ching Chair in Housing at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto. He specializes in housing policy, homelessness, neighborhood change, and social inequality. His research has addressed urban polarization, rental housing dynamics, and the human right to adequate housing. He has led major SSHRC-funded projects, including a $2.5M grant on neighborhood change in Canadian cities (2012–2023). His work spans academic leadership, teaching, and impactful policy engagement.
