Iván A. Ramos

Iván A. Ramos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies at Brown University. His research focuses on transnational Latino/a/x aesthetics, sound studies, queer theory, and feminist critiques of violence. He holds a PhD from UC Berkeley and a BA from UC San Diego. Previously, he was an assistant professor at the University of Maryland and a UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Riverside.

His first book, Unbelonging: Dissonant Sounds in Mexican and Latinx Aesthetics (NYU Press, 2023), examines how sound and subcultural art resist neoliberal policies. His second project, Mourning Without Bodies, explores experimental aesthetics addressing violence in the Americas. His work appears in Third Text, Women & Performance, and ASAP/Journal.

Ramos has received fellowships from the Mellon Foundation, Ford Foundation, and National Humanities Center. His research emphasizes decolonial methodologies and minoritarian archives, often collaborating with artists and curating exhibitions.
