Ivan Skvrce

Ivan Skvrce is an Associate Professor of Art at Algebra University, actively contributing to the academic community through teaching and artistic practice. He is a founding member of the ABS art group, a critical platform established in 2007 that engages with material practices and political contradictions in art, culture, and society.

His research interests center on contemporary art's role in critiquing socio-political systems. The ABS group's work—materialized through paintings, artistic actions, and projects—explores the alienated atmospheres of crisis situations within modernity, emphasizing painting's symptomatic potential in cultural contexts.

Skvrce and the ABS group graduated from the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts (Department of Painting) in 2003 and completed postgraduate studies at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and Design in 2014. They have exhibited in 25 solo and 50 group exhibitions internationally, living and working between Zagreb, Rijeka, and Krk.
