Prof. Ivan Parvev is a distinguished historian at Sofia University's Faculty of History, specializing in Modern Balkan History. He holds the position of Professor since 2011 and previously served as Associate Professor (2001–2011) and Department Head (2007–2015). His research focuses on European-Ottoman relations, the Eastern Question, and Habsburg-Ottoman dynamics in the 18th–19th centuries. He has conducted extensive research in Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands, supported by DAAD, OeAD, and the Mellon Foundation.
Education: Graduated from Sofia University (1986) with dual focus on Balkan History and German Philology. He earned his PhD (1993) and Doctor of Historical Sciences (2011) degrees from Sofia University. His administrative roles include chairing the Bulgarian Society for 18th Century Studies since 2009 and leading projects like Collegium Historicum and research seminars on the 18th century.
Research interests span Habsburg-Ottoman military conflicts, German perceptions of Southeastern Europe, and the evolution of the Eastern Question. His publications include over 50 books and articles, such as Land in Sicht (2008) and Balkanите и Източният въпрос (2017). He actively participates in international conferences and editorial roles for scholarly volumes.
