Ivan Mouraviev is a Research Fellow in Music at the University of Huddersfield's Department of Media, Humanities and the Arts, and a member of the Centre for Research in Music and its Technologies. He leads the Leverhulme-funded Amplification Project (2025-2030), examining low-frequency sound technologies and their cultural impacts, including subwoofers, tactile loudspeakers, and festival soundscapes. His PhD (University of Bristol, 2024) focused on bass culture in dub-diasporic music and its challenge to EDM narratives. He holds an MPhil from the University of Cambridge (2019).
Research interests include vibration in music performance, sonic affect in class and identity, and digital platforms like music streaming. He is also a practicing DJ and producer.
Current research involves cultural histories of amplification technologies and sonic practices in underground nightlife. Collaborations span interdisciplinary projects on sound system cultures and queer belonging in British nightlife.
