Ito Peng is a Professor of Sociology and Public Policy at the University of Toronto's Department of Sociology and Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. She serves as Director of the Centre for Global Social Policy and holds the Canada Research Chair in Global Social Policy. Her research focuses on family, gender, migration, and comparative social policy in East Asia, particularly in South Korea and Japan. She led a SSHRC-funded project on Gender, Migration, and the Work of Care, examining care work's global impacts.
Educated at the London School of Economics (PhD), Peng holds senior fellowships at Massey College, Trinity College (U of T), and the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. She has held leadership roles, including Associate Dean at the Faculty of Arts and Science and Director of the Centre for the Studies of Korea. Her work bridges policy analysis and sociological inquiry, addressing demographic shifts, care systems, and migration dynamics.
