About
Italo Tempera is an Associate Professor at the Ellen and Ronald Caplan Cancer Center within The Wistar Institute. He also serves as Director of Wistar Graduate Programs.
Research Interests
Dr. Tempera investigates epigenetic mechanisms in Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, focusing on chromatin structure, CTCF interactions, and PARP1-mediated regulation. His work aims to develop EBV-specific therapies for associated cancers like Burkitt’s lymphoma and gastric carcinomas.
Publications
Recent studies highlight his discoveries in viral genome architecture, Polycomb repressive complex modulation by PARP1, and epigenetic drugs for lytic reactivation. Key collaborations include research on multiple sclerosis and PARP inhibitors in leukemia.
Labs & Teams
His laboratory studies EBV-host interactions using genomic approaches, working with postdoctoral fellows and graduate students on topics like chromatin looping and PARylation dynamics.
