About
Istvan Z. Kiss is the Arts & Sciences Professor of Chemistry at Saint Louis University's Department of Chemistry within the School of Science and Engineering. His research focuses on nonlinear dynamics, electrochemistry, and synchronization in chemical reacting systems. He holds a Diplom (M.Sc.) from Kossuth Lajos University and a Ph.D. from the University of Debrecen, followed by postdoctoral studies at the University of Virginia.
Key research interests include systems electrochemistry, chemical complexity, and oscillatory networks. His work explores synchronization patterns, chaotic systems control, and electrochemical instabilities using experimental and mathematical tools. He leads the Kiss Lab, which investigates topics like electrochemical oscillations, microfluidic systems, and corrosion mitigation.
Notable honors include the NSF CAREER Award (2010), Cottrell Scholar recognition (2008), and the Richard M. Noyes Scholar award (2004). He serves as an editor for Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science and has organized major conferences, including the 2018 Gordon Research Conference on Oscillations and Dynamical Instabilities.
Current advisees include Jorge Ocampo, John Tetteh, Lawrence Bordoh, and Guleid Ali. The lab is housed in Monsanto Hall, with research supported by grants such as the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the Cottrell College Science Award.
