About
Dr. Issam A. Qattan is an Associate Professor of Physics at Khalifa University. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics and Astronomy from Northwestern University in 2005 and has affiliations with Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), Thomas Jefferson National Laboratory (JLAB), and Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). His academic journey includes postdoctoral research at Indiana University Cyclotron Facility (IUCF) and faculty roles at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) and Khalifa University.
- Education: Ph.D. in Physics and Astronomy (2005), Northwestern University
His research spans experimental and theoretical nuclear/particle physics, condensed matter physics, and materials science. Key projects include probing the electromagnetic structure of nucleons via electron-proton scattering and first-principles Density Functional Theory (DFT) investigations of 2D materials like graphene. He has contributed to studies on nucleon form factors, two-photon exchange corrections, and the mechanical/optical properties of auxetic pentagonal/hexagonal materials.
Dr. Qattan serves as a mentor to Ph.D. students and has held leadership roles, including founding chair of the Physics Department at KU. He has established BSc and Ph.D. programs in Physics and maintains collaborations with major national laboratories.
- Scientific Awards: Department of Energy Research Fellow
