Ismail Toroz

Prof. Dr. Ismail Toroz is a Professor at the Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ). He holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from İTÜ and has over 35 years of academic and professional experience. His research focuses on air and water pollution control, environmental chemistry, noise control, waste management, and environmental legislation. He has held significant administrative roles including Acting Dean (2016-2017) and Advisor to the Rector (since 2021) at İTÜ.

**Education**: BSc in Chemical Engineering (İTÜ, 1976), MSc in Environmental Engineering (İTÜ, 1981), PhD in Environmental Engineering (İTÜ, 1988). Completed a post-doctorate at Drexel University (1990-1991).

**Research Interests**: Development of advanced water treatment technologies, disinfection by-product formation, hazardous waste management, noise pollution assessment, and environmental policy implementation. He has authored/co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and has led projects on wastewater treatment, industrial pollution control, and sustainable waste management systems.

**Awards**: Recognized by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) in 2015 for contributions to environmental engineering. His work includes pioneering studies on nanofiltration for textile wastewater treatment and membrane-based advanced oxidation processes.

**Grants and Projects**: Managed EU-funded initiatives on hazardous waste inventory systems and collaborated on EU-Turkey environmental governance projects. His research group focuses on Istanbul’s water quality, urban noise mapping, and agricultural soil contamination.

**Labs/Teams**: Leads the Environmental Pollution Control Laboratory at İTÜ, specializing in water treatment technologies, air quality monitoring, and waste management innovations.
