Ismail Rashid is a Professor and Chair of History at Vassar College since 1998, holding the Marion Musser Lloyd '32 Chair. He specializes in African history, focusing on pre-colonial and modern periods, African diaspora, and Pan-Africanism. His research addresses subaltern resistance to colonialism, public health challenges, and contemporary African conflicts. Rashid earned his BA in Classics and History from the University of Ghana, MA in Race Relations from Wilfrid Laurier University, and PhD in African History from McGill University.
