University of SouthamptonAbout
Dr. Isha Gupta is a Lecturer at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, University of Southampton, joining in September 2024. She holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan (2020) and a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science.
Her research focuses on mechanics of materials in extreme environments, particularly advanced coatings and in-situ oxide films that protect structural materials like Ni superalloys, refractory metals, and ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) from thermal and environmental degradation. This work integrates physics-based modeling and experimental approaches to guide the design of high-performance aerospace materials.
She has taught courses in Solid Mechanics, Finite Element Analysis, and Materials Failure at the University of Michigan, and guest lectured on Computational Thermomechanics and Fracture Mechanics at MIT. Isha actively promotes diversity in STEM through mentorship programs at MIT, including the Women in Technology Program and the Summer Research Program for Underrepresented Minorities.
Her affiliations include the Astronautics Group, Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute, and the Ocean Energy Maritime Decarbonisation research initiative.
