Isabelle Peretz

Dr. Isabelle Peretz is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Montreal and holds both a Canada Research Chair and a Casavant Research Chair in the neurocognition of music. Her research explores the musical potential of ordinary individuals, focusing on neural correlates, heritability, and specificity relative to language systems.

She has contributed extensively to understanding congenital amusia (tone-deafness) and the neuroplastic effects of musical training, particularly in aging populations and early childhood development. Her work bridges cognitive psychology, auditory neuroscience, and developmental disorders.
