Isabelle Léglise is a Research Director at the CNRS and Deputy Director of SeDyL (Structures Formelles du Langage) in charge of IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement) relations. She leads research themes on language practices, heterogeneity, and globalization and co-leads work on social issues of multilingualism in education, health, and transnational families. Her projects span the Global South, focusing on French Guiana, Suriname, Brazil, and Cambodia.
- Current Projects: Public Spaces in the Anthropocene (InIdex Project), Educational Inequalities in Overseas Territories (AMI MITI CNRS), Digital Educational Innovations in Guyana (DGLFLF, Labex EFL), and Cambodian research training (IRD Manusastra 3).
- Leadership Roles: Director of the Open Access series Contact and Multilingualism (Language Science Press), Editor of Langage et Société, and member of academic committees (EUR FRAPP, INALCO, EFL Labex).
Research Focus: Multilingualism, linguistic landscapes, language ideologies, and sociolinguistic approaches to globalization. Her work bridges empirical studies with policy implications in postcolonial contexts.
Public Engagement: She produces audiovisual resources (films, documentaries, podcasts) to democratize linguistic knowledge, notably on creole languages, language ideologies, and multilingual education.
