Dr. Isabelle Côté is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her research focuses on migration-security linkages, Sons of the Soil conflicts in Asia, and the political impacts of demographic shifts. She holds a PhD from the University of Toronto and has conducted postdoctoral research at KITLV in Leiden, Netherlands.

Her research examines how internal migration interacts with ethnic conflict and political violence, particularly in China and Indonesia. Current projects explore resource conflicts tied to migration, indigenous peace processes, and comparative analyses with Africa and Latin America. She has authored/co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed articles and a co-edited book on migration and conflict.
Teaching expertise includes comparative politics, human security, Asian politics, and contentious politics. Recent courses include POSC 2300 (Comparative Politics), POSC 3295 (Migration and Security), and POSC 6000 (Political Concepts).
Her work bridges fieldwork methodologies with policy analysis, emphasizing the role of sub-state actors in migration governance. Ongoing research explores urban inequality in China and resettlement dynamics in Newfoundland and Labrador.
