About
Isabel Seguro Requejo is a Senior Research Associate at the School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia (UEA), and a member of the Centre for Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences. Her research focuses on marine science, particularly microbial communities, plankton dynamics, and air-sea gas exchange processes (O₂ and CO₂). She examines factors influencing microplankton in tropical estuaries and bacterioplankton respiration in ocean carbon storage. Current projects include MicroRESPIRE (abiotic/biotic factors in microbial respiration) and CERBERUS (deep biosphere microbial enzymes).
Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to climate action and life below water. She has authored/co-authored six peer-reviewed articles, with recent contributions on tropical estuarine gradients and Celtic Sea carbon dynamics. She served as a peer reviewer for the International Ocean Colour Coordinating Group (2021–2022). Media coverage highlights her Antarctic research on polar environments and ocean surveys.
