Dr. Isabel Rodriguez is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Surrey. She holds B.A. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Alicante and completed her Ph.D. in 2015. Her research examines tourism innovation, entrepreneurship, and policy, with particular focus on innovation processes, risk management, and sustainability transitions.
Dr. Rodriguez leads the Leverhulme Trust-funded project 'Life after-death: knowledge trajectories after innovation failure' and previously directed the EU Horizon 2020 project 'INNOVATE' examining tourism entrepreneurs' innovation journeys across Spain and the UK. Her research analyzes innovation failure, knowledge transfer, and policy interventions in tourism contexts.
Her publications focus on tourism innovation processes, entrepreneurial risk management, sustainable tourism development, and policy evaluation, particularly in Mediterranean destinations. Recent articles explore co-creation of sustainable innovations and originality in tourism research.
Dr. Rodriguez supervises doctoral students including Nurul Hasmy Mallalahi (Muslim-friendly tourism in Indonesia), Laurensius Sandro Rero (resident well-being in island destinations), and Jose Francisco Melenez (sustainability-oriented innovations).
