Isaac Odoom is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Carleton University, specializing in International Relations and the Politics of Development in the Global South with a regional focus on Africa and China. He holds degrees from the University of Ghana (BA Hons), Brock University (MA), and the University of Alberta (PhD). His positions include Non-Resident Fellow at the Centre for Asian Studies (University of Ghana) and former Visiting Researcher at the Institute of West Asian and African Studies in Beijing.
Research interests focus on:
- African agency in shaping external partnerships
- Chinese engagement in infrastructure/energy/digital sectors
- Critical IR scholarship and decolonizing knowledge
- Canada's economic cooperation in Africa
Recent publications explore the geopolitics of China's Digital Silk Road in Ghana, critical examinations of academic dependency, and political economy analyses of South-South cooperation.
