Irita Skurule serves as a visiting lecturer in the Department of Music Technology at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music while concurrently working as a sound director at VSIA “Latvijas Televīzija” and SIA “Marana Productions”. She earned her professional bachelor's degree in music and sound director qualification from the Academy in 2015, followed by a Professional Master's degree in "Music and Performing Arts" with Sound Direction specialization in 2019.
Her academic development was enhanced through:
- Erasmus studies at Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, Warsaw (mentored by Joanna Napieralska, Krzysztof Kuraszkiewicz, and Andrzej Lupa)
- Erasmus+ internship at Musicube Academy, Germany (under Matthias Wittwer)
Skurule's professional portfolio spans documentary films ("Blessed by Will and Talent. Marina Rebeka", "Osokini. The Energy of Thirty Fingers Music", "Pauls from Kalvenes"), feature films ("Gūtenmorgens and Vienciems", "Mēs"), and the Latvian adaptation of "Shopkins. World Vacation". She has recorded albums for Norwegian chamber choir "Sankta Sunniva" and band Very Cool People, plus Mārtiņš Braun’s 60th anniversary concert at the University of Latvia.
Her research focuses on practical applications of sound engineering across media formats, with emphasis on:
- Audio post-production for visual media
- Cross-cultural adaptation of animated content
- Live concert documentation techniques
- Documentary soundscaping
- Voice-over engineering
- Choral and ensemble recording
