Irene Griffiths

Irene Griffiths is a Lecturer in Plant Breeding at the Department of Life Sciences, Aberystwyth University. She contributes to research aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in sustainable agriculture and food security.

• Current projects: Island Oats (NERC Arctic Office, 2024–2025) and The physiological basis for yield and quality in UK oats (Center for Transboundary Cooperation, 2013–2014).

Her research focuses on oat breeding, emphasizing milling quality and resource use efficiency. Recent work includes genetic mapping of disease resistance genes and integrating multi-spectral imaging for trait prediction in breeding trials.

Collaborations span institutes like the European Bioinformatics Institute. She utilizes datasets (e.g., MTBLS1801) for metabolite profiling and phenotyping in oat research.
