Irakli Tezelashvili

Irakli Tezelashvili is an Associate Lecturer and PhD candidate at The Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London. His research examines 12th-century Georgian art through the lens of social history and political theology, challenging traditional nationalistic approaches in art history.

Education includes:

• BA in Art History & Byzantine Studies, Tbilisi State University (2018)
• MA in Cultural Heritage, Tbilisi State University (2020)

Teaching: Leads courses on 'Art and Crusades' and contributes to gender studies curricula. Developed the Medieval Georgian Monumental Painting database.

Research projects: Received Courtauld Research Grants (2022-2024) and coordinated database projects on Georgian mural paintings. Awarded the Caroline Adams Essay Prize (2020) for work on Virgin Paraklesis depictions.
