Ira J. Singer

Ira J. Singer is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Hofstra University. He previously taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Northwestern University, and Johns Hopkins University. He earned his A.B. from Princeton University and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.

• Research Interests: Philosophy of David Hume, epistemological skepticism, foundations of ethics, moral psychology, free will, personal identity, right to privacy, and the relationship between naturalistic accounts and normative claims.
• Teaching: Regularly teaches courses such as Introduction to Ethics, Ethical Theory, and Classical Modern Philosophy. In Fall 2003, taught an Honors College seminar (Character and the Good Life) and a First Year Program seminar (Self, Freedom, and Responsibility).
