Ioannis Rokas

Ioannis Rokas is a Professor of Commercial Law at the Department of Business Administration, School of Business, Athens University of Economics and Business since 1997 (previously Assistant Professor since 1985). He is a member of the Athens Bar Association and has been a practicing lawyer since 1971, authorized to appear before the Athens and Piraeus Courts of Appeal and The Supreme Court of Greece.

His educational background includes a BA in Law from the University of Athens (1968) and a PhD in Law from Frei Universitaet Berlin (1975).

Professor Rokas's research primarily centers on Insurance Law within the European Union, Greece, and Eastern Europe, as well as Infrastructure Finance and Project Finance. His work bridges commercial law and business practices, with a focus on legal frameworks governing insurance contracts and large-scale infrastructure development.

His scholarly output spans five decades with over 160 publications in Greek, German, and English. Key works like "Hellenic Insurance Law" (1999) and "Introduction to Greek Private Maritime Law" (2001) demonstrate his expertise in specialized legal domains, showing consistent emphasis on European harmonization of insurance law and maritime commercial regulations.

He holds leadership roles in major international legal associations:

• Chairman of the International Working Group "Distribution of Insurance Products"
