Ioan Pop-Curşeu is an Associate Professor at Babeş-Bolyai University in the Department of Cinematography and Media, Faculty of Theatre and Television. He also served as Guest Professor at Babeş-Bolyai University's Faculty of Letters and University of Bucharest's Excellence Center for the Study of Image (CESI).

Research interests include film aesthetics, 19th-century French literature (particularly Baudelaire and Flaubert), and anthropological aspects of magic and witchcraft. His recent publications focus on witchcraft iconography in cinema, religious art, and legal codes.

He directs the international collaborative research Magie și vrăjitorie. Perspective istorice, antropologice și artistice and organizes multidisciplinary conferences on witchcraft in arts.
