Prof. Ingvild Bode is a Professor of International Politics at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and Director of the Center for War Studies. Her research focuses on normative change in international politics, particularly regarding the use of force, autonomous weapons systems, and AI in military decision-making. She leads three major research projects funded by the European Research Council and DFF: AutoNorms, AutoPractices, and HuMach. Previously, she served as Senior Lecturer at the University of Kent (2015–2020) and as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science International Research Fellow affiliated with the United Nations University and University of Tokyo (2013–2015).
Her work appears in journals such as the European Journal of International Relations and Review of International Studies, and her co-authored book Autonomous Weapons and International Norms (2022) is a key contribution to the field. She has also co-chaired the IEEE Research Group on AI and Autonomy for Defence Systems.
In grants and leadership, she secures significant external funding, notably through ERC and Sapere Aude initiatives. Her research labs/teams include the Center for War Studies, which explores critical issues in contemporary warfare and international norms.
