Ingrid Wijk

Ingrid Wijk is an Affiliated Researcher in the Department of Health Promotion Science at Stockholm School of Health Sciences. With a background as a Specialist Nurse in Diabetes Care and prior experience as a research nurse, her work bridges clinical practice and academic research. Her research focuses on the psychosocial aspects of living with type 1 diabetes, particularly mental health challenges, self-care burdens, and the efficacy of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) interventions to improve outcomes.

Education & Dissertation
In 2023, she completed her dissertation titled "Experiences of living with type 1 diabetes and improving psychological flexibility through an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) intervention".

Research Interests
Wijk examines how psychosocial factors intersect with diabetes management, emphasizing mental health's role in blood sugar control. She evaluates group-based ACT programs to reduce stress and enhance psychological flexibility among individuals with type 1 diabetes.

Current Projects
Her ongoing work evaluates the impact of ACT-based interventions on both clinical outcomes (e.g., blood sugar levels) and psychosocial well-being. The goal is to integrate evidence-based psychosocial support into routine diabetes care.
