About
Prof. Dr. Ingo Krossing is a Full Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, leading the Forschungsbereich A in the Institute for Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry. His research focuses on ionic systems, battery electrolytes, ionic liquids, and unified acidity/redundancy scales. He holds affiliations with the Freiburg Center for Interactive Materials and Bioinspired Technologies (FIT), livMatS, and IoLiTec. Krossing’s career includes postdoctoral work at the University of New Brunswick (Canada) and a faculty role at EPFL (Switzerland) before joining Freiburg in 2006.
- Education: PhD (1997, LMU Munich), Habilitation (2002, Karlsruhe).
- Awards: Chemistry Europe Fellow, ERC Advanced Grants (UniChem/InnoChem), Leopoldina membership, Otto-Klung-Weberbank Prize.
- Leadership: Past President of ADUC (GDCh), Scientific Director of FAST Freiburg, and organizer of major conferences like Coordination Chemistry Days.
His research group explores energy storage systems (batteries/supercapacitors), novel electrolytes, and catalytic processes for CO2 valorization. Key innovations include adaptive SEI layers for lithium-metal batteries and fluorinated catalysts for methanol synthesis. Krossing has supervised numerous PhD students and postdocs, with active collaborations across academia and industry.
Recent work emphasizes unified redox scales, deelectronator reagents, and novel transition metal complexes. His lab develops materials for sustainable energy solutions, including oxymethylene dimethyl ethers and ionothermal synthesis.
