About
Ingo Burgert is a Full Professor at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at ETH Zürich and heads the Institute for Building Materials (IfB). He co-leads the WoodTec research group at the Cellulose and Wood Materials Laboratory, Empa, Dübendorf. His work focuses on nanostructural and micromechanical characterization of wood and fiber composites, aiming to optimize material properties through biomimetic and bio-inspired approaches.
Key research areas include:
- Nanostructural analysis of wood
- Polymer chemistry for wood modification
- Development of electrically conductive and responsive wood materials
- Biomimetic principles in technical applications
- Potential uses in Smart Home systems
His research bridges natural material properties with advanced technological applications to enhance wood's reliability as a sustainable building material.
