Ingmar Weber

Ingmar Weber is a Professor at Saarland University, where he leads the establishment of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Societal Computing. A Humboldt Professor and ACM Distinguished Member, his work bridges computer science and social sciences through innovative data methodologies.

He earned his doctorate from Saarland University in 2007, followed by postdoctoral positions at EPFL (Switzerland) and Yahoo Research (Barcelona). His career includes serving as Research Director of the Social Computing Group at Qatar Computing Research Institute since 2017, with visiting roles at Microsoft (2016) and Singapore Management University (2015).

Specializing in Computational Social Science, Weber pioneers "Big Social Data" analysis using public social media interfaces, search trends, and official statistics. His research develops Bayesian models to address data uncertainties in migration pattern quantification, hate speech detection (distinguishing provocative statements from dangerous content), and political polarization analysis—providing more reliable insights than traditional statistics.

His scientific awards include:
