About
Dr. Inga Musselman is the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), holding the Cecil H. Green Distinguished Chair of Academic Leadership. She joined UTD in 1992 as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry, advancing through academic ranks to become Professor and serving leadership roles including Associate Head of the Chemistry Department (2003–2008) and Associate Provost (2008–2017). Her research focuses on microscopy techniques (STM/AFM), gas separation membranes, fuel cells, and bionanotechnology, with over 80 peer-reviewed publications and multiple patents.
Education: Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from University of North Carolina (1988), B.A. in Chemistry from Gettysburg College (1982).
Professional Roles: Editor of Experimental Biology and Medicine, former President of the Microbeam Analysis Society (2004–2006), and leader in academic governance including faculty promotion/tenure processes.
Research Interests: Development of advanced materials for energy applications (e.g., proton exchange membranes), nanotube-based sensors, and microscopy-driven material characterization. Current projects emphasize chemical contrast mechanisms in STM, peptide-carbon nanotube interactions, and high-temperature fuel cell membranes.
Grants & Honors: Over $1.2M in research funding from NSF, NIH, DOE, and Welch Foundation. Awards include the Castaing Award (1985), Presidential Service Award (2003), and Distinguished Alumna recognition from Gettysburg College (2017).
Advising: Supervised over 40 graduate and undergraduate students, with numerous high-impact publications arising from her research group.
