About
Prof. Joseph Octave Indekeu is a Full Professor of Physics at KU Leuven's Department of Physics and Astronomy, serving as its Head (2011–2015). He holds academic leadership roles including President of the Belgian Physical Society (2002–2003) and Spokesperson for Science Communication at KU Leuven (2005–2007). His research focuses on theoretical statistical physics, with contributions in wetting phenomena, superconductivity, and complex networks. He co-developed the quantum physics cabaret, an award-winning science outreach initiative.
- Education & Early Career: Postdoctoral Fellowships at MIT (1983–1984), TU Delft/RU Leiden (1985–1987), and extended stays in institutions like Padova and Oxford.
- Research: Seminal work on interfacial critical phenomena, predicting interface delocalization in superconductors (experimentally confirmed). Co-authored studies on nanopatterned silicon wetting (ACS Nano, 2014) and network robustness (PRL, 2009).
- Awards: 2013 Royal Flemish Academy Prize for Science Outreach, Fulbright Scholar (1983), and multiple teaching awards.
His lab at KU Leuven collaborates internationally, blending theoretical physics with applied research in materials science and nanotechnology.
