Imre Lazar is a Professor at the Department of Communication and Media Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Gáspár Károli Reformed University (KRE), Hungary. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at Semmelweis University, demonstrating a long-standing academic career in medical and cultural anthropology. His interdisciplinary work bridges medicine, psychology, and the humanities.
He holds an MD, an MSc in Medical Anthropology from Brunel University, and a PhD in Medical Sciences from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His doctoral research focused on social psychoimmunology and its explanatory models in medical anthropology.
Professor Lazar’s research interests include medical anthropology, cultural and environmental anthropology, psychoimmunology, cultural psychophysiology, intercultural communication, organizational behavior, spirituality in health, and sacred semiotics. His work integrates biological, psychological, and cultural dimensions of human health and illness.
The recent publications reflect a strong transdisciplinary trend, combining psychosomatic medicine, network theory, dermatology, immunology, and spiritual healing. His work spans clinical research on psoriasis and vaccination responses to theoretical explorations of posthumanism, ecocriticism, and clinical shamanism. The articles emphasize mind-body-environment interactions and network-based approaches to health.
