About
Dr. Imogen Gingell is a Research Fellow at Imperial College London, affiliated with the Faculty of Natural Sciences. Her work focuses on magnetospheric plasma interactions, particularly the Earth's bow shock and magnetic reconnection processes observed via NASA's Magnetospheric Multiscale spacecraft.
Education:
- PhD at University of Warwick
Research Interests: She investigates how supersonic solar wind plasma interacts with Earth's magnetic field, leading to energy release and magnetic field restructuring. Her discovery of magnetic reconnection in shock waves has advanced understanding of space weather dynamics.
Advocacy and Contributions: As a trans woman, she actively supports the development of Imperial's LGBT+ Allies Network and was featured in the College's LGBT History Month campaign. Her experience highlights inclusive practices in academia, including equitable treatment during transition-related healthcare.
