Imelda

Imelda serves as the André Hoffmann Assistant Professor in Environmental and Resource Economics at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. She maintains additional affiliations as an invited researcher at the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (JPAL) and as a core member of the Center for International Environmental Studies (CIES). Her academic foundation includes a PhD in Economics from the University of Hawaii (2018) and postdoctoral research at Carlos III University of Madrid focused on clean energy transition policies.

Her research critically examines intersections between environmental systems, energy markets, health outcomes, and gender equity through applied microeconomic frameworks. Key investigation areas include:

• Environmental and resource economics with climate change mitigation focus
• Renewable energy market design and integration challenges
• Gender-differentiated health impacts of energy access policies
• Behavioral welfare effects in energy pricing mechanisms

Publication analysis (2020-2024) reveals an evolving trajectory from industrial organization studies in energy markets toward integrated gender-health-energy systems research. Her methodological approach combines rigorous applied microeconomics with empirical fieldwork in developing economies, notably Indonesia, to evaluate how clean energy transitions affect household welfare and market efficiency.

She actively contributes to the Center for International Environmental Studies (CIES) and collaborates with JPAL on development-focused initiatives addressing energy poverty and sustainable transitions in emerging economies, particularly examining policy pathways for equitable clean energy adoption.
