Ilmi Yoon is a Teaching Professor and Director of Computing Programs at Khoury College of Computer Sciences, Northeastern University’s Silicon Valley Campus. She holds a Ph.D. and MS in Computer Science from the University of Southern California (2000, 1996) and was affiliated with the CGIT Laboratory.
Her research focuses on promoting inclusivity and accessibility through machine learning and Human-Centered AI, particularly for visually impaired users via descriptive audio generation in video accessibility. Key projects include YouDescribeX (2020-2024) and NSF-funded initiatives like BPC-A: Socially Responsible Computing (2022-2025) and PINC 2.0 (2018-2024).
