Ila Sheren

Ila Sheren is Associate Professor of Art History and Archaeology at Washington University, researching contemporary art, border politics, and decolonial theory. Her work examines artistic responses to environmental crises and migration, with focus on the US-Mexico border region.

Education includes PhD from MIT. Authored Portable Borders analyzing performance art on the frontera. Current projects investigate eco-art's role in climate justice movements and digital documentation of non-human ecologies.

Teaches courses on activist art, new media, and global contemporary practices. Research emphasizes art's capacity to challenge geopolitical boundaries and reframe environmental discourse.
