Ignasi Roca

Dr. Ignasi Roca is an Assistant Research Professor at ISGlobal with a focus on bacterial virulence and antimicrobial resistance. Previously, he taught Microbiology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and conducted research at the Hospital Clinic's Microbiology department before joining ISGlobal in 2013.

• Education: BS in Biology (1999, UAB) with minors in Biochemistry and Genetics; PhD in Molecular Characterization of Ribonucleotide Reduction in Bacteria (Barcelona/Stockholm).

His research spans:

• Identification of bacterial virulence factors and antibiotic resistance mechanisms
• Epidemiology of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative pathogens
• Development of rapid diagnostic tools for bacterial infections

Recent publications highlight his work on Acinetobacter baumannii virulence, novel species identification, and MALDI-TOF/MS applications for bacterial typing. Research trends include molecular epidemiology, technological validation for diagnostics, and environmental reservoirs of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
