Ignacia Mercadal

Ignacia Mercadal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Florida. Previously, she held positions as an Assistant Professor at Columbia University and a postdoctoral fellow at MIT. She earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on industrial organization and energy economics, with a particular emphasis on electricity markets, market structure, and environmental policy.

Her work explores topics such as strategic behavior during extreme weather events, subsidy incidence in agricultural markets, and the role of financial players in electricity market dynamics. She has published in top journals like the Journal of Political Economy, AEJ: Microeconomics, and Energy Economics.

Dr. Mercadal teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on data analysis and econometrics. Her research consistently bridges theoretical economic models with real-world applications in energy and environmental policy.
